An exciting opportunity has arisen due to the emerging nature of midwifery services in Manchester for one highly skilled and experienced midwife to join the leadership team in Saint Mary's Division as Patient Safety Midwife for Intrapartum Care/ CTG Championon the Oxford Road Campus. This is a permanent position.

The post holder will have a key leadership role within the Intrapartum Care Team and will provide specialist skills and knowledge to support the division’s quality and safety agenda. The post holder will support the Matron for Intrapartum Care to enhance and develop high standards of care through education, patient safety incident response management, risk management and continuous quality improvement. The post holder will be an advocate for women and their families in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within Saint Mary’s Hospital Managed Clinical Service ensuring that Trust values and beliefs are upheld.

Maternity services at Saint Mary's provide women living in Central Manchester, Wythenshawe, Trafford, Salford the North West and beyond with primary, secondary and tertiary obstetric services. Saint Mary's is renowned both regionally and nationally for its research, clinical fetal and maternal medicine services.

The maternity unit is co-located with the level three regional newborn intensive care service. There is an established midwifery team delivering care to low risk women and a multidisciplinary team comprising of obstetricians, midwives, anaesthetists, neonatologists and physicians providing care to women with specialist fetal and maternal medical needs.

You will need to be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a driving passion and determination to support the senior midwifery team in line with the exciting national picture of care and compassion, as well as a local picture of quality improvement. You will need to have good knowledge and skill base of both midwifery clinical practice and local leadership.

You will support the development of practice as a midwifery expert; providing advice to colleagues in the organisation and working in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.

You will be resilient, well organised and innovative. A proven track record of supporting change processes, coupled with good influencing and negotiation skills are key attributes required for these posts in order to provide an integrated and effective service focusing on the delivery and assurance of safe, high quality patient care across our services.

In this key role you will work closely with both the Ward Managers for the Delivery Unit, the Matron for Intrapartum Services, the Maternity Governance Team, the Deputy Head of Midwifery and the Head of Midwifery.
