University Hospitals of Leicester has one of the largest maternity services in the country, currently across two obstetric sites, a stand-alone birth centre and community services, including a dedicated homebirth team. We have a birth rate currently of around 9,800, providing care for a complex, diverse population with the challenges of a deprived inner city and rural county. This role will provide ample opportunities for professional development and experience of a busy and challenging service. You will be integral to the exciting prospect of reconfiguration of maternity services and a brand new single site maternity hospital.

Do you have excellent communication skills along with visible, dynamic and inspirational leadership with the ability to enable the midwifery workforce to deliver safe and high quality standards of care?

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, inspirational midwife leader with proven leadership and academic experience to join the senior midwifery team, the post holder will have credibility to work clinically alongside the frontline staff.

You will be a member of the senior maternity management team including, midwifery matrons and consultant obstetricians.

You will be supporting the current Head of Midwifery and Nursing to lead on projects for quality improvement as part of the Trust’s quality strategy-‘Becoming the Best’ and in line with the national maternity transformation agenda leading on development of continuity of care pathways.

You will also be responsible for;

midwifery excellence in line with our ‘becoming the best strategy’ as well as practice excellence to ensure high standards of midwifery-led care with a leading focus on patient safety.
Implementation of national policy
Participate in the Senior Manager on call rota.
Report writing for the Board and NHSE.
Work with other members of the MDT, Practice Development teams, Matrons and academic colleagues to promote evidence based care delivery.
Support initiatives throughout the trust across a range of issues relating to improving patient safety including the corporate specialist nurses and practitioners in post relating to tissue viability, falls, infection prevention, intravenous care and resuscitation taking into account both national and local guidance and initiatives.
As an experienced and credible clinician, demonstrate and role model professional midwifery; influence and support the development of midwives and support staff in the delivery and improvement of services to women and their families.
You should be able to demonstrate values based leadership and influencing skills, effective communication and have the confidence to constructively challenge across all staff groups and to facilitate an open culture.
As part of the senior midwifery team, this post will also give you excellent opportunity to influence the strategic development of the whole service. There will also be the opportunity to be involved in service reconfiguration changes in Leicester as part of the sustainability transformation plan and drive forward the recommendations from Better Births and the NHS 10 year plan.

You will be based primarily at the Leicester Royal Infirmary but will be required to work and travel across all Trust sites including, the General Hospital, Glenfield General Hospital, St Mary’s Birth Centre, Melton Mowbray and the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland community.
