Thank you for considering East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust as your choice of employer. The Trust is in an area that has great transport access to London & the continent but is also set in beautiful countryside with easy access to many great Kentish beaches and towns.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Midwife with strong clinical leadership and facilitation skills, who will lead on improving the standard of risk assessment and fetal monitoring in line with element 4 of the Saving Babies' Lives 2 Care Bundle.

The post holder will be a highly visible champion for safe and effective fetal heart rate interpretation through demonstration of expert clinical knowledge and practice. Education and training of maternity staff is a fundamental element of this post. The role will support embedding our physiological approach to fetal monitoring applied to intelligent intermittent auscultation, CTG and ST monitoring.

The Fetal Monitoring Midwife will be a member of our Faculty of Multi-Professional Learning in Maternity. They will be mentored by a consultant obstetrician and midwife with advanced expert skills in fetal monitoring and work in partnership with the Labour Suite Lead Midwives and Consultants in ensuring that care provided to mother’s and babies is both safe and effective.

There will be a strong focus on workplace learning through supporting the multiprofessional team to ensure they can accurately and confidently interpret fetal monitoring. This workplace based learning would take place in all clinical settings - the midwifery led unit, community and the delivery suite settings for example.

The role will involve working with the education lead for maternity to embed the knowledge and skills staff gain from our comprehensive fetal monitoring course and competency framework, into the workplace. This culture of continuous learning associated with continuous measurement for improvement will provide assurance that all staff undertaking fetal monitoring are competent to provide safe care.

The post is a full-time position, working across our two acute hospital sites which are positioned at The Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate and The William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Kent.

You will be joining a well-established team dedicated to the ongoing promotion of women centered personalised care in line with Better Births.

East Kent Hospital University Foundation Trust delivers approximately 7,000 women a year across the whole service. You will be responsible for demonstrating clinical leadership and midwifery expertise in relation to reducing perinatal mortality, in line with the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle. Promote team working, review, plan, implement and maintain the 5 elements of the bundle whilst engaging teams in a consistent approach to improving patient experience and outcomes. We are privileged to be able to offer alongside a counterpart in the same role to meet this agenda and to make a significant difference for women and their babies.

The Trust covers a population area of 760,000 and we need people like ‘You’ with fresh ideas and a great attitude to come and join us on our journey. We are in the middle of our maternity transformation journey and have a variety of improvements underway.

If you feel you have these qualities and want to join our teams at a very exciting time we look forward to hearing from you.
