Job overview

Are you interested in finding out more about opportunities within our Obstetric Sonography team?

Here are some of the reasons we are unique.

• Our maternity department is one of the largest in the country, supporting more than 6,000 births a year, offering women the choice of four places on birth. We are currently looking to expand our Obstetric Scanning Department.
• Our maternity services are renowned nationally and internationally, having developed PROMPT and with a wide research portfolio.
• We are a stand-alone service, supported by our team of Radiographer and Midwife Sonographers. We do not rotate staff through our main radiology service, although bespoke rotations may be available to support those that may wish to rotate.
• We are proud to support our Sonographers in their practice and professional development.

Our service currently runs 8am – 4.30pm but we are looking to expand to evening and weekend working in the near future.

We would encourage applications from people who may wish to work on a flexible basis, recognising that flexibility may mean a range of different working patterns and hours. Please do talk to us about the flexibility you would like us to consider as we do our utmost to work with our staff to meet their needs and the needs of our patients.

Main duties of the job

Working within our Obstetrics Scanning Department, based within our Antenatal Clinic, you will work as an integrated member of the team, performing a wide range of Obstetric Scans to include Dating scans, First Trimester Combined Screening scans, Anomaly scans, Assessment of Fetal Wellbeing, Growth scans and Umbilical Artery Doppler.

Successful candidates for this role will have the following:

• A Postgraduate qualification in ultrasound, including evidence of completion of an Obstetrics module (Pg Dip, Pg Cert, DMU, or MSc in Medical Ultrasound or UK recognised equivalent). We would welcome applications from newly qualified sonographers who have obtained their PgCert in this field.
• Current UK Professional Registration with either the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
• Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) accreditation or willingness to work towards this.

We would also welcome applications from Obstetric Sonographers who have already completed their training to perform First Trimester Combined Screening and have current registration with the Fetal Medical Foundation (FMF). For applicants who have not completed this training, a willingness to undertake this if appointed would be essential.
