The Trust Executive Group has recently approved the implementation of a comprehensive Inventory Management System across the Trust, with the vision of improving efficiency, transparency and traceability of the Trusts stock control for consumables, including high-cost items, with a view to improve patient safety and to ensure compliance with GS1 and Scan4Safety standards. We are looking to appoint a dynamic individual with the skills and experience to deliver transformational change; ensuring all improvements benefit patient pathways, standardise systems and processes, enable better use of data and ultimately improves patient care and staff experience.

Main duties of the job
The Digital Nurse/Midwife will play a key role in the implementation of the new Inventory Management System and associated digital inventory records across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The post holder will work within the expanding STH Digital Team with a specific focus on the implementation of a new Inventory Management System which is integral to the success of meeting the product element of Scan 4 Safety. They will provide practical support to the clinical teams to take forward improvements and new ways of working to enable successful service transition, drive operational change and help realise the qualitative and quantitative benefits available with use of an electronic Inventory Management System across the Trust.

The post holder will join the STH Digital Team to support the delivery and implementation of a programme of digital transformational change across diverse groups of staff helping to drive change. For the first two years this role will work with the Inventory Management Team to assist in the implementation of the new Inventory Management system. The post holder will then form part of the STH Digital team to support the delivery and implementation of a programme of transformational change relating to the Electronic Patient Record across diverse groups of staff helping to drive change.

The post holder will work with the clinical teams to ensure alignment of priorities to achieve the overall project plan and support the Technology Innovation Director, Technology Innovation Lead Nurse and the Head of Inventory Management in enabling staff to develop and improve inventory information systems across clinical services in the Trust. Improving patient safety, quality and patient experience is an explicit priority rather than an assumption and needs to underpin all elements of initiatives undertaken.

The post holder will be expected to work across both acute campuses and where required community sites and will be assigned to lead the digital agenda in the Care Groups across STH and act as the liaison point between STH Digital Team, Inventory Management Team, Informatics, Care Group Operations Director, Clinical Directors and Nurse Directors.

The Trust has received approval to implement a new Inventory Management System - an electronic system to monitor and manage stock/consumables to ensure the right items are available at the right time, in the right quantity to create a clean and safe environment for excellent delivery of patient care improving the patience experience in a cost effective manner. This role will support this aspiration.

Provide nursing leadership for implementation and embedding of digitisation across the organisation.
Ensure that other Nursing / Midwifery professionals are appropriately involved in the ongoing development of technology systems and processes.
Build a culture of ownership of the technology agenda across the different Nursing, Midwifery and other disciplines and workflow e.g. clinic, community, ward, and specialist practices.
Attend and participate in team meetings, providing regular verbal and written updates for the Technology Innovation Senior Nurse, Technology Innovation Lead Nurse, Head of Inventory Management and others as required.
To represent the Technology Innovation Matron and STH Digital Team as required.
Clinical Leadership:

Under the overarching supervision of the Technology Innovation Lead Nurse, the role will be responsible for:

Contribute to the strategic direction that determines how Sheffield Teaching Hospital uses technology.
Digital transformation communications and engagement.
To work closely with the Technology Innovation Matron, Head of Inventory Management and the STH Digital Team to support the implementation of systems across the Trust.
Maintain an in depth knowledge of the clinical systems and an understanding of their potential use and end purpose at STH, including their potential impact on patient care, staff experience and trust performance.
To work closely with clinical teams across the Trust to ensure programme priorities are understood and reflect the needs of patients, in order to have significant impact on safety, quality, performance, patient and staff experience/effectiveness
To champion, support and inspire the use of technology across STH
To demonstrate change management skills and nurture them in others
To undertake a detailed analysis of the relevant pathways baseline positions to identify implications of introducing an EPR and opportunities for change.
Accountable for motivating teams and colleagues involved in change, particularly working in close liaison with the STH Digital Team to assist with product design, configuration, testing, training and support during the deployment period.
Act as clinical champion and role model for using technology as an enabler for safe and effective care by working clinically as required in a supernumerary capacity.
Lead a team of staff to implement and embed the EPR Strategy.
To demonstrate credibility and drive for the implementation of change and the appropriate use of improvement tools and techniques in the design of change.
To present an assured and professional approach in order to gain commitment from individuals at all levels both within and outside the Trust.
Develop a network internally and externally to maintain an up to date knowledge of leadership and management development issues.
To be capable of making judgements through utilising analytical skills and assimilating benchmarking and other data, to make justifiable interpretations of information, processes and behaviours and to be able to propose and plan the way forward.
To act as an expert resource within the digital and clinical nursing sphere providing advice as required.
Promote and develop multi-disciplinary engagement in clinical care and record keeping in order to provide optimum safe patient care.

Take responsibility for the coordination and, where appropriate, delivery of internal and external programmes and support the delivery of the internal leadership and management programmes.
Where appropriate, work collaboratively with other team members, training team, project teams and the learning and development department.
To act as a role model and teacher, providing mentorship and support, demonstrating exemplary practice to all members of the Nursing / Midwifery team.
Work closely with colleagues in Training and Learning and Development to facilitate a training needs analysis and strategy for the development and implementation of a robust educational programme to ensure the successful roll-out and ongoing maintenance/development of an electronic patient record.
