Band 5 Preceptee

We are currently recruiting newly qualified and recently completed Return to Practice course Midwives who are dedicated to providing evidence based and women centred care to complement our existing team of Hospital Based Midwives. We need midwives who are competent and confident at facilitating and supporting normality in childbirth. We offer an excellent preceptorship programme to support you in your first year in practice, including dedicated teaching sessions, rotation between delivery suite, antenatal / post-natal wards and the possibility of a 3 month period in the community in order to gain experience in all areas with many of our preceptees staying in the continuity teams they have requested once they finish their preceptorship programme.

We have become one of the only London Trusts to have a fully accredited preceptorship programme in partnership with the University of Greenwich and have recently achieved the Capital Midwife Preceptorship Quality Mark which highlights what a fantastic programme we offer.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, is a large Trust facilitating care to over 8,000 mothers and their babies every year. We have two busy obstetric units; one on the Queen Elizabeth, Woolwich site and the other on the Lewisham site. Both sites have beautiful, well established, co-aligned Birth Centres, with the Lewisham Site named as a beacon site by the Midwifery Unit Network (MUNet) in 2018.
Our diverse client population provides us with constant challenges and we strive to deliver the highest standard of care. We have considerable expertise at caring for women with complex and high risk needs and our specialist midwives consistently provide the highest standard of multi-agency care.

We have a Consultant midwife on each site who are working together to support our maternity staff in promoting and facilitating normality. We are aiming to support 25% of women accessing our care to birth outside of the Obstetric units and another part of their strategy is to decrease our Caesarean section rates.

Our whole maternity service is exciting and innovative and due to this, we received a CQC rating of ‘Good’ in 2017 which we have followed with another rating of ‘Good’ in 2018. This follows on from winning the 2016 RCM award for Midwifery Service of the Year. A few more of our recent achievements include:

Our vulnerable families team, Indigo, won the Maternity Team of the year MMA, 2018
One of our consultant Midwives won the Doreen Norton award 2019 for her work with migrant women
We are very pleased to have set up pregnancy plus clinics in partnership with a weight loss company to promote healthy eating for life.

If you have vision, are dynamic and motivated with a commitment to providing and developing a first class service then Lewisham and Greenwich Maternity services want you. We look forward to welcoming you to help us achieve even more in the future.

Please read the Personal and Job specifications carefully. You should provide evidence in your application of the essential qualities required and why you would be an asset to our Midwifery Team. We test all shortlisted candidates prior to interview on Risk Assessment and Medicines Management. Invites to testing and interview will be sent to Personal e-mail addresses, please ensure one is provided on your application.

Staff also have access to a salary sacrifice scheme which includes lease car hire.

If you are currently a student midwife, please only apply if you will be qualifying within the next 3 months as it will affect your future applications with us. We look forward to welcoming you to help us achieve even more in the future.
