Student Midwife - Band 5 - Maternity

Could you help West Suffolk Hospital to deliver the best quality and safest care to our local community?

Are you an Adult Nurse who would like to become a midwife?

If the answer is ‘yes’ we would like to help you to do this through our pre-registration BSc (Hons) Midwifery (shortened) programme. We work closely with the University of Suffolk to support any application to change career and we currently have vacancies for the September 2021 cohort.

The theoretical component of the course is led by the University of Suffolk in Ipswich. Teaching will be provided via virtual classrooms and on-campus teaching and is organised into modules that are spread across the duration of the course. The practical placements will be within the Trust and the succesful candidate will be placed in various clinical locations to enable them to meet thier practice requirements. Clinical placements include a community midwifery placement, midwifery led birthing unit, labour suite, antenatal clinic, a health visitor placement and neonatal unit placements. During the placements the succesful candidate will be supported by a practice supervisor and practice assessor. The course is 24 months long and finishes at the end of August 2023.

Whilst completion of the programme does not automatically guarantee a permanent post, the Trust is keen to retain newly qualified midwives within the organisation. Please note recruitment for student midwives is also taking place at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Individual adverts are being released for each Trust. Please only apply to the Trust where you wish to be employed for your practice placements.

All successful applicants will be invited to an interview. Interviews will take place virtually. These will be hosted by the University of Suffolk in conjunction with Trust partners and will take place during the first week of June 2021 (1st, 2nd or 3rd June – exact dates and times will be confirmed with successful candidates). Applicants should allow the whole day for the interview process.
