There has never been a better time to come and work at The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust. As a maternity unit we are innovative with more improvements planned for 2021. We are led by a supportive management team and can offer excellent opportunities for further career development. In line with NHS England requirements, we are currently implementing a phased programme of work to provide continuity of care to our women.

We would like to invite you to join our highly motivated and friendly Midwifery team in Shropshire, where commitment to providing high quality, woman-centred care is our passion.

This is an exciting yet challenging time for the Maternity Services across the country, as we embrace a period of improvement and development. We will continue to work in partnership with our women, our local Maternity Voices partnership (MVP), the Local Maternity System (LMNS) and our CCG’s to develop our future model of care. We are seeking, innovative and flexible midwives that will work within our continuity of care (CofC) teams and our integrated care team providing care to the women and their families.

As a continuity of care midwife you will be working in a team of 6-8 midwives caring for a mixed risk group of women, supporting your clients by booking their pregnancy, providing their routine antenatal care, providing team continuity during intrapartum care in the birth setting of the woman’s choice, and following her journey through the postnatal period. Working alongside our multi-disciplinary team will allow you to look after each woman’s specific needs and follow her personal journey. You will be required to do an on call shift once a week or provide a night shift to cover out of hours period.

Each team will be caring for a small caseload of women (approx. 216 women) and their families on a ratio of 1:36 per year. We can also offer you complete autonomy of your diary, flexible hours, self-rostering, team working, and a buddy system with great support, continued development, training and inter-professional working

As an integrated midwife you will have the opportunity to work across all areas of maternity including, community settings, antenatal, low risk birthing unit and consultant unit delivery suite including acute postnatal and transitional care settings. There will also be options to move into CofC teams as they develop in the future.

We have one main Consultant Unit which is a modern and well equipped facility, along-side a Midwife led unit based at Telford. We also have four other MLU’s currently open to outpatient activity. In total our birth numbers average 4,500 per year.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to be involved with these new developments at the outset, as well as those wishing to further develop their clinical skills and gain valuable experience working in all areas of the maternity service. This is your chance to be part of a transforming organisation. We aim to ensure all women have access to the optimal birth environment in accordance with their choice and in line with evidence based practice.

We are currently working to transform our services in line with Better Births and wider National maternity ambitions to improve Maternity Services. We have a newly formed Dynamic Senior leadership team in place who are embracing and supporting maternity transformation. We currently have 2 Continuity of care teams working successfully in our service, with further plans to mobilise more teams in the near future.

We are forward thinking with motivated staff who strive to improve the quality of the service that we offer to our women, their babies and their families. We are currently undertaking transformation to improve our services with focus on quality safety and choice to improve outcomes, strengthening our governance processes improving patent and staff experiences within our maternity services. We will provide professional development opportunities for all levels of staff and encourage diversity and development opportunities.
