We are seeking highly motivated, experienced dynamic midwives to join our team who are committed to the philosophy of normal birth and is passionate about delivering high, quality midwifery led care, along with achieving the highest possible patient experience. The North Northumberland midwifery team has 2 bases Hillcrest, Alnwick and Berwick, these posts will be for the Hillcrest base however cover and on call will be required at Berwick. The North Northumberland team is staffed by a team of passionate, normality-focused midwives; who provide a friendly birth experience within a low risk setting offering water birth and active birth as options.

This is an exciting time to join our team as we are continually improving our service and we are about to commence a new continuity, case loading model to deliver Better Births.

Only low risk birth in the maternity units will be covered by the on call however as part of the new model opportunity will be given for you to attend Northumbria Specialist Emergency care hospital with women from your caseload for planned care. This will provide excellent opportunities to develop and maintain your all round experience in a progressive environment

You will need to be able to demonstrate recent clinical experience, have the requisite level of competencies at band 6 and provide evidence of on-going professional development. Further education is encouraged, including support to attend relevant courses to maintain personal and professional development to meet service needs. We offer a comprehensive in-house training package as well as having strong links with local Universities and take great pride in the excellent preceptorship package which we offer to our newly qualified midwives.

You should be able to demonstrate good communication skills, have a flexible approach to care and working practices as well as being sensitive to women’s needs and choices. Candidates will have an on-call commitment.

Full time or part time hours are available.

Essential:

1st Level live NMC Registered Midwife
Registered mentor. Mentorship Qualification or relevant equivalent
qualification. (essential requirement or must be gained within 12 months of appointment)
Diploma or degree or equivalent relevant experience
Be able to demonstrate recent experience and have the requisite level of competencies at Band 6
Thorough understanding of contemporary midwifery issues
Evidence of change management in ward/dept area
Evidence of practice development
Experience of co-ordinating a team
Thorough understanding of expanded knowledge of primary care roles/professional practice issues
It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. However, the Trust would consider making reasonable adjustments to the role, if necessary, to enable a disabled person to undertake the role
