A fantastic opportunity for a midwife has arisen to work within our screening team as part of a busy Obstetric Ultrasound Department / Fetal Medicine Unit at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.
Raigmore Hospital provides midwifery, obstetric and neonatal care to pregnant women and their families living in the Scottish Highlands. It covers a wide rural area of 12500 square miles and has approx 2100 births a year.
You should be a qualified experienced midwife with a keen interest in antenatal screening. This role requires a high level of communication with families who have the potential of being given life altering news. The screening midwife is responsible for co-ordinating any investigations required when a fetal anomaly has been suspected or confirmed. This journey leads into the management and outcome of the pregnancy including bereavement follow up as part of a multi disciplinary approach, working closely with sonography, paediatrics and obstetric colleagues. This also requires communication with tertiary centres.
The screening midwives are also responsible for both the higher and lower chance screening results from the first trimester screen for Down’s, Edwards’ and Patau’s syndrome, second trimester for Down’s syndrome screening and maintaining databases.
