As an employer of nearly 5,000 staff, West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust is the place to be. Having have been shortlisted over the last three years for 18 national people related awards and most recently winning the Nursing Times award for Best UK Employer 2019 we are immensely proud of our achievements.

We have lots to shout about! Despite having lots of challenges, we’ve worked really hard to make West Herts a great place to work. The good news is we’re really starting to see the results of our efforts. We’re one of the few NHS organisations across the UK to have achieved a phenomenal 0% nurse vacancy rate within our adult inpatient areas. We have also recently secured over £450m capital funding to transform our sites and give our patients and colleagues within #teamwestherts the working environment they deserve.

Preceptorship Midwife

Here at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust Midwifery Service we are committed to fostering innovation and driving improvements in an environment that is empowering and supportive for our staff and for Women and their families, in our care.

We have developed an exciting preceptorship programme during which you have the opportunity to manage a small caseload. You will also rotate through the practice areas and your learning and development will be encouraged and supported by our Practice Development team. This programme will be the ideal preparation required to enable you to deliver the principles of choice and continuity, most recently recommended in the National Maternity Review: Better Births.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic, sensitive and well organised midwives to join our team. You will be expected to have excellent clinical and communications skills and a commitment to lifelong learning.

West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust provides acute healthcare services to a population of approximately half a million people living in West Hertfordshire and the surrounding area. The Trust also provides a range of more specialist services to a wider population, serving residents of North London, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and East Hertfordshire.

As an employer of over 4000 people we are one of the biggest employers in the area and see around a million patients each year.

Our vision is to embody in our hospitals the principles, values and sense of service that created the NHS by providing consistently good, safe care in a friendly, listening and informative way, as and when people need and want it and always with dignity and respect.
