In the community we follow the women from 16/40 antenatal appointment through to the postnatal period with a view to start booking our women in line with the Better Births Agenda for Continuity of Carer. You will gain a true sense of autonomy whilst building therapeutic relationships with the women. This will also involve working alongside the multidisciplinary team to plan and support women’s care and her choices. This may include creating individualised plans for women whose births choices may fall outside guidelines. You will be working in small teams that will provide women centred safe care according to their individual needs with the opportunity to develop and work in a case loading model of care for women and families

Our local community is home to families from a diverse mix of ethnicity, social and health needs. We have a Level 3 Neonatal Unit situated at the Royal London Site, a Level 2 Neonatal Unit situated at the Newham Site and we have excellent facilities in Fetal Medicine.

Newham Hospital is situated in the heart of East London and we have easy access to very good public transport links. We provide Maternity Services to approximately 6700 women a year and accommodate our women in very modern up to date facilitates. We have co-located midwifery-led unit and a stand-alone midwife-led unit at Barking.

There are superb opportunities for training and career development which includes a comprehensive orientation programme, education links with City University, University of Greenwich and London Southbank University. We have a state of the art simulation centre to support high fidelity multi-disciplinary obstetric emergency training, as well as a bespoke and comprehensive in-service education programme. We are looking for a senior community midwife with a minimum of 3 years post registration experience as a band 6 midwife with recent intrapartum experience, to ensure efficient management and coordination of a community midwifery team. You will ensure quality and safe care for women and their family, support the Matron in leading in achieving good working environment for staff and promote innovation within women services. You will ensure that there is effective lines of communication with the hospital and community teams as well as external agencies such as GP’s, health visitors, social services etc.
