We need you to care with us

About the service:

Waikato Hospital is a tertiary facility where we have over three and a half thousand births per year. As well as caring for women in the Waikato, we are also the tertiary hospital for the Midland region for women requiring complex care.

Why us:

We have an energetic team of midwife managers and medical staff, as well as a supportive team of midwifery leaders who help your transition to a new place of work.

We are all about making this a great place to come to work every day – yes, it is busy, but we are committed to making this a very well-staffed and well supported tertiary unit.

We provide rotation through all our inpatient areas: birthing suite, women’s assessment unit, ante and post-natal wards and then the choice to “home base’ in one area or continue to rotate. We have a specialist perinatal loss midwife and lactation consultants to support you in your day-to-day work, and educators to help with learning needs, whether that be figuring out how we do things here, or gaining a post-graduate qualification.

We are one of the largest hospitals on one campus in the Southern Hemisphere… but we are also a close-knit community with great staff support.

Our DHB provides lots of work perks such as discounted gym memberships and health services, and provides a workplace support service to make working here a great decision.

We are a values based and inclusive organisation that is committed to deliver the best health outcomes for our total population. To do this we are working hard to develop a robust and capable workforce that reflects the population we serve. We strongly encourage applicants from all backgrounds with the necessary capability and who share our values to apply and would greatly value seeing more applicants from our Maori communities.

Why Waikato:

The Waikato is a great place to work and live, with plenty of recreational activities, relatively affordable housing, great shopping and few traffic issues. We are close to other major cities for world-renown concerts and events, and we host many world-class sports events here. We have superb restaurants and plenty of walking and cycling tracks. We are close to Raglan (45 minutes) for brilliant surfing, cafés and chilling, and not too much further to the Coromandel coast with pristine waters and golden sand beaches.

Situated on the banks of the mighty Waikato River, Hamilton is New Zealand’s largest metropolitan inland city. Hamilton’s vibrant city centre and rich cultural mix makes it an ideal place to experience the authentic friendly Kiwi lifestyle.

We provide assistance to successful candidates joining the Waikato DHB from outside the region to help with their relocation expenses.
