A key leadership role has arisen within one of the largest UK hospital Trusts. Women and Children's Health Division is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to lead the Obstetric Ultrasound Department. North Bristol Trust have 6.500 births annually. The successful applicant must be able to:

• To have overall responsibility for the day to day clinical and operational management of the ultrasound department with the maternity service
• To ensure the delivery of an effective clinical obstetric ultrasound service and to undertake the role of the Sonography Lead in obstetric ultrasound.
• To lead by example, maintaining clinical expertise and promoting high imaging standards
• To take a lead role in clinical assessment and co-ordination of ultrasound training for Midwife Sonographers, students and others.
• To develop, manage and supervise the ultrasound component of the First Trimester Combined Screening (FTCS) Programme.
• To ensure compliance with National Screening Committee and FASP standards.
• To be the local nominated lead – Screening Support Sonographer (SSS) as detailed in the NHS Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme (FASP) documentation.
• To represent the Department at appropriate Trust Committees and to contribute to the successful overall performance of the Trust
• To provide expert ultrasound information and advice to women, midwife sonographers and radiographers, and other health care professionals and agencies.
• Responsible for the continuous monitoring and audit of the obstetric ultrasound service.

The Screening Support Sonographer (SSS) role is pivotal in ensuring local providers offer a safe and effective service and in meeting the national targets set out in the NHS England Service Specification for Screening for Down’s, Edwards’ and Patau’s syndromes (No. 16) and the NHS England Service Specification for Screening for Fetal anomaly Scan (No. 17) Section 3.15 of the service specification details “the Provider will have in place a dedicated lead screening sonographer (with appropriate deputy arrangements to ensure continual cover), to oversee the implementation, delivery and monitoring of the screening programme in both the antenatal and ultrasound settings. This staff are also responsible for ensuring that there is an on-going educational programme for health professionals involved in screening.” The expectation is for all Providers to have a SSS (and deputy) to specifically support the NHS FASP programme. The Screening Support Sonographer will lead and support the unit in achieving national standards and to ensure a high-quality test.
