Staff Midwife

Salary: £35,000-£39,000

Location: London – The Portland Hospital

We’re currently looking for an NMC-registered Midwife with solid midwifery experience to join the internationally-renowned Portland Hospital, the only independent hospital in the UK entirely dedicated to women and children. Working within our midwifery team and alongside our Obstetric Consultants, you’ll provide antenatal, intranatal and postnatal care to our in-patients. We carry out some 2,000 deliveries a year and you’ll help to put women at the centre of their care, empowering them to make their own decisions about how they give birth.

As well as providing advice, support and individualised care to women and their families, you can expect to work with the Ward Sister in the management of the clinical area – that’s going to involve dealing with complex situations and taking action in emergency or unforeseen situations. We’ll need you to build strong working relationships with internal and external customers as well as other health professionals, and you’ll make sure that all relevant data is entered accurately and promptly into our IT systems.

Across everything you do, you’ll demonstrate the highest standards of clinical practice and a progressive approach to the continual improvement of patient care through research, evidence-based practice and the development of additional specialist skills.

Experienced in adult and newborn life support, you’ll bring a good understanding of safeguarding issues, and a commitment to excellent clinical governance and audits. You should be a caring yet assertive communicator with a flexible approach, plenty of initiative and the ability to work well both in a team, and independently. You’ll be punctual, reliable and able to work under pressure. Computer literacy, including clinical systems, is essential.

Any teaching or mentoring experience you have would be a big advantage, as would ALSO and MALS qualifications, and WHO Baby Friendly training. Cannulation skills and a proven ability to put current research into practice would be another plus.
