The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) dispatches professional experts as technical assistants, to contribute to the sustainable improvement of living conditions of people in developing and transition countries.

In Bangladesch, the task of the Development Advisor is to provide technical assistance and coaching to the Sylhet Nursing College (SNC) in the implementation of the newly developed three-year midwifery education programme. The incumbent will support SNC in ensuring, that the quality of the diploma programme is in accordance with the standards and requirements set by the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council. The ultimate aim is to increase the number of qualified midwives in the country, especially in the Sylhet Division, for better maternal and newborn care.

Therefore we are looking for a development worker to fill the position as

Main tasks of the incumbent is to
• Support SNC in implementing the new national diploma programme for midwives.
• Advise SNC on establishing a monitoring and quality management system.
• Enhance the technical knowledge and skills of midwifery trainers through on- the-job coaching.
• Provide technical advice to SNC for designing and implementing the practical training sessions (to be conducted in cooperation with the MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital).
• Assist in improving the liaison skills of SNC management for enhancing working relationships between SNC and the various stakeholders.

Required qualifications
• Qualified midwife with teaching experience
• Minimum 3 years of practical work experience
• High proficiency in English (spoken and written)

Further skills
• Basic understanding of knowledge management
• Experience in general management or project coordination
• Working experience in the field of quality management
• Expertise in the field of monitoring and evaluation
• Having working experience in the region and in the field of development will be an added advantage
• Willingness to learn Bangla

Duration of assignment: 2 years

• Place of posting: Sylhet, Bangladesh
• Climate: Sub-tropical and tropical with hot summers, rainy season and low temperatures during winter.
• Medical care: Good basic medical care are available locally
• Amenities: Basic personal goods are available locally
• Accessibility: Good connections by plane to the capital Dhaka (3 flights per day, 1 hour travel), over land journey takes about 6 hours
• Childcare and schooling: Babysitters and schools with classes in English are available (up to O-levels)
