We have some exciting news at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust

Our midwifery continuity of carer teams are launching soon and we would be delighted if you would join us to be part of this highly rewarding model of care for midwives and women and their families. We are also working towards the Baby Friendly Initiative.

You will be a passionate, professional and kind midwife embedded in woman centeredness. You will have either experience in this model of care or a desire for your midwifery career to include continuity of carer for women and their families. You will be happy to work 30+ hours per week, be a car driver and have a flexible approach to work within your team to provide overnight availability (normally once or twice per week).

Main duties of the job
Each team will normally be caring for a small caseload of women and their families on a ratio of 1:36 per year based on a geographical area surrounding Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

As a continuity of carer midwife, you will be working in a team of 6-8 midwives caring for diverse populations including vulnerable women, women from different ethnicities, teenagers and women with low risk and complex pregnancies. You will be booking womens pregnancies, providing their routine antenatal care, providing continuity during intrapartum care in the birth setting of the womans choice, and following her through to the postnatal period.

Our teams will be linked to obstetricians, specialist midwives and professional midwifery advocates. Furthermore, we can also offer you complete autonomy of your diary, flexible hours, self-rostering, team working, and a buddy system with support and continuing professional development.

About us
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
